Abstract

The city of Basra has provided Islamic heritage with many figures who played a prominent role in serving the scientific progress and supporting Islamic civilization with various types of science and knowledge. These figures made the city of Basra a center of scientific and intellectual radiation, whose light has spread throughout the world, past and present. Among these figures is Ibn Udayna al-Abdi al-Qaysi, who was one of the most prominent scientific figures in Basra at the end of the Umayyad era, due to his prominence in various fields of science and knowledge at that time, in addition to the social status that he and his family enjoyed. In view of these distinguished characteristics, we decided to conduct our research on this figure who contributed a lot to this city, in order for its people to know the historical symbols of Basra that have not been given their due research and study by academic studies. In fact, this figure has not been mentioned in any previous academic study. It seems that the reason for the reluctance of academic researchers to address this figure is either due to their focus on figures who have clear and apparent achievements that do not require a lot of effort to address their biographies and achievements, and to avoid involving themselves in studying a figure that is... In their view - it is not influential, or they saw that Ibn Udayna had interests in jurisprudence, so they did not dare to study him, or they did not originally look into the biography of this personality or hear about him.
