Abstract
The study area is located in southern Iraq within Al-Faw and Abu Al-Khaseeb districts in the far southeast of Basra Governorate and represents part of the southern border of Iraq (Map (1)). Its geographic location is between latitudes (29,55) and (30,20) north and longitude arcs - (47,54) and (48,41) east. The district is bordered to the north by Basra district, to the south by the waters of the Arabian Gulf, to the east by Iran, and to the west by Umm Qasr district. From a natural perspective, the boundaries are represented by Shatt al-Arab to the east, Khor Al-Zubair to the west, Al-Khawrah River to the north, and the waters of the Arabian Gulf to the south. Accordingly, the study area takes the form of a peninsula located north of the Arabian Gulf. (12) groundwater samples were collected from (6) sites dug by hand drills during two seasons: the end of August 2011, which represents the summer season, and the end of March 2012, which represents the winter season. Map (2) shows the sampling stations. This study aims to determine the quality of groundwater based on the concentration of dissolved ions, determine its movement and fluctuations in its levels during the two seasons, and reveal its environmental effects and suitability for use.
