Abstract
Thematic maps are of great importance in economic and social planning, particularly in human geography. Therefore, the methods for creating and producing them have evolved, especially with the advent of computers and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the 1960s. GIS played a major role in the development of map production in general, and statistical mapping in particular. Through GIS, traditional paper maps have transformed into digital maps that can be analyzed, linked, compared, and used to represent various geographical phenomena. The research problem addressed in this study is: To what extent can and do thematic maps effectively represent human geographical phenomena, revealing spatial variations and relationships, and thus provide a true picture of these phenomena?
