القراءات القرآنية في تفسير البيضاوي: ظاهرة الهمزة (دراسة صوتية)
Abstract
Among the phonetic phenomena mentioned by Al-Baydawi in his commentary is the phenomenon of gemination (doubling of consonants). He discussed Quranic readings that included both the full pronunciation of the geminated consonant and its various simplifications, such as deletion or assimilation. Our study revealed that Al-Baydawi considered this phenomenon a dialectal feature used by some Arab tribes. He attributed this to the perceived harshness of the geminated sound, which he likened to a hiccup, or to avoid the repetition of similar sounds, or to preserve the original pronunciation—a view shared by other Arabic linguists. Phonetic phenomena occupy a significant portion of Al-Baydawi's commentary, which is an important source for the study of Arabic language due to its rich linguistic and grammatical content, including various Quranic readings, making it a valuable reference for linguists and scholars of Quranic recitation. This was one of the reasons that motivated me to study these readings, examining them through the phonetic material presented in the works of classical and modern linguists and scholars of Quranic recitation. My methodology in this study was inductive and analytical.
