Abstract
Ozone is a toxic gas and a triatomic form of oxygen. It is a component of the atmosphere, formed when a single atom of oxygen combines with an oxygen molecule (O2) in the presence of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Most ozone is found in the stratosphere, with some also present in the troposphere. It is produced naturally through photochemical reactions involving gases released by human activities, such as smog. Ozone plays a crucial role in protecting the Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation, absorbing between 97% and 99% of this radiation before it reaches the Earth's surface, while allowing the passage of infrared radiation, which contributes to warming the planet.
