Abstract
The topic of sentence structure, particularly imperative sentences, has been extensively discussed by both classical and modern Arabic scholars and researchers. However, I wanted to examine sentence structure from both its classical and modern perspectives, employing a comparative approach based on contemporary theories such as speech acts, indirect speech acts, and pragmatic implicature. I divided my discussion into two main sections: the first addressed the concept and terminology of sentence structure, while the second explored the perspectives of modern linguists, especially those focusing on pragmatics, regarding this linguistic system. The section dedicated to imperative sentences, however, only included the views of classical Arabic grammarians, as I found that the aforementioned modern theories do not differentiate between imperative and non-imperative sentences, treating them both as either direct or indirect speech acts, and pragmatic implicature is also not specific to any particular type of sentence.
