Abstract
Hannamina is considered one of the pioneers of the Arabic novel, a genre whose roots extend back to the previous century, and his novels represent a significant contribution to the development of the Arabic novel. This research paper examines the novel "The Sun on a Cloudy Day" through a critical study of its characters and their relationship to other narrative elements such as plot, dialogue, setting, and time. The paper aims to elucidate the artistic and aesthetic nuances of character creation in the novel. To achieve this objective, the study employs a descriptive and analytical methodology. Ultimately, based on Lawrence's theory, the paper concludes that the characters in this novel can be categorized, according to their development, as dynamic or static, and according to their role in the narrative, as central, secondary, or peripheral. The study also finds that narrative elements play a crucial role in character development, revealing various facets and traits of each character. Furthermore, the paper asserts that the relationship between the characters and the narrative elements in "The Sun on a Cloudy Day" is so integral that it results in a unified whole, where the elements cannot be separated.
