المكان السردي في الأدب السردي في المثنى
Abstract
Place is an important element in the structure and construction of a novel. It is the framework that encompasses its events, characters, and other elements; therefore, place has become essential for understanding the characteristics of each novel and how it differs from others (1). "It is the backbone that connects the various parts of the novel" (2). The relationship between humans and place is symbiotic; human existence cannot be conceived without a spatial context. Place represents the stage upon which human activities and various experiences unfold. This perspective is most clearly articulated by Bachelard, who discussed the relationship between humans and place, stating: "The place that attracts the imagination cannot remain a mere, indifferent space with only geometric dimensions; humans have lived there, not only objectively, but also with all the richness of their imagination" (3). Thus, place transcends its function as a mere container for characters and defining certain perceptions of its inhabitants; rather, it shapes the image of its inhabitants and provides the essential framework by which they establish their place in our minds (4). This is because place is a dynamic element that influences the characteristics of characters and the nature of their actions (5). It has also been observed that the character, in turn, shapes the characteristics of the place. Therefore, it has been said: "Our fundamental understanding of place stems from our spatial existence, our inherent orientation towards place, resulting from our occupation of space and our specific location within it."
