Abstract
The inclusion of feminine qualities and characteristics in Andalusian poetry is merely a reflection of the poet's appreciation of women, and an emotional outlet; it enriches the poet's experiences with a vibrant artistic vision, allowing him to express himself on a wide range of topics. Like his counterparts in the Eastern Arab world, the Andalusian poet employed certain characteristics that imbued women with a delicate feminine charm, endowing these traits with psychological and artistic functions. Through these, he expressed his inclination towards the concept of freedom, using women as a source of inspiration, enabling him to express himself and enjoy the pleasures of life without vulgarity or compromising that concept. When reading Andalusian poetry, we find that the poet used descriptive or figurative language. He often described women as having "radiant complexions," regardless of their actual skin color. He also favored slender women with slightly fuller figures, and was captivated by beautiful eyes. These, along with other elements, constitute what we consider the initial aesthetic characteristics. The Andalusian poet believed that beauty is relative, and he enhanced the beauty of his female subjects with spiritual (moral) qualities, focusing on virtues such as chastity, innocence, purity, and modesty. Furthermore, among the embellishments of beauty are the adornments that women often use, such as jewelry, bracelets, perfumes, and clothing. The Andalusian poet devoted considerable attention to these, expressing his admiration and attraction to certain women for their refined taste in using such adornments, seeing them as a sign of cultural sophistication.
