عائلة حسداي اليهودية: دراسة لدورها الإداري والفكري في الأندلس: دراسة تاريخية
Abstract
The Hazzady family was one of the Jewish families that received favor and patronage from the Muslim rulers of Al-Andalus. This family converted to Islam and enjoyed prestige, status, and honor in Al-Andalus. What makes this subject particularly interesting and worthy of study is understanding the nature of the privileges that Jews in general, and the Hazzady family in particular, enjoyed during the reigns of Abd al-Rahman al-Nasir and his son al-Hakam, extending into the era of the Taifa kingdoms, both in political and administrative roles, as well as in the intellectual and scholarly spheres. This is especially relevant given that Jews had suffered persecution during various historical periods, and considering that most Muslim rulers, based on historical evidence, tended to rely on Christians rather than Jews for administrative positions, due to perceived breaches of agreements and covenants by the Jews, as well as their perceived religious fanaticism. Although historians differ on the reasons for their conversion to Islam, the policies implemented by Caliph al-Nasir and his son al-Hakam yielded positive results, leading to the weakening of the Arab aristocracy and paving the way for Jews to hold numerous administrative positions.
