Abstract
Sheikh Muhammad Mahdi Al-Samawi is a well-known Iraqi figure, and is considered one of the most prominent in the contemporary local history of Al-Muthanna Governorate. He was born in Samawah in 1932 and was given the nickname Al-Samawi in reference to it. His affiliation with the Al-Abdul-Rasul family had a direct influence on him. The Sheikh's educational journey began by studying in the Kuttab (schools) to learn reading and writing in Najaf Al-Ashraf, under the care and support of his father. He soon began studying the introductory seminaries under his father, grandfather, and uncles, gradually progressing until he completed the seminary levels and then advanced research under the supervision of many Najaf professors and scholars such as Sayyid Muhsin Al-Hakim, Sayyid Abu Al-Qasim Al-Khoei, Sayyid Muhammad Taqi Al-Hakim, and Sayyid Muhammad Baqir Al-Sadr, in addition to others. Sheikh Al-Samawi began attending and regularly attending the College of Jurisprudence in 1959, progressing through its stages until he graduated in 1962.
