علم اجتماع التدين الشعبي والمعتقدات العقلانية: دراسة اجتماعية لطقوس عاشوراء عند الشيعة
Abstract
This study presents a reading of a pattern of religiosity that has emerged as an active force in daily life, namely popular religiosity and the associated ritual practices, particularly among the Shiite sect. This approach relies on a general awareness of religiosity as a cultural system, in an attempt to provide a sociocultural analysis that analyzes the relationship between patterns of religiosity production and other social structural contributions. In this paper, we will attempt to raise a number of pressing issues raised by the widespread practice of popular religiosity among the Shiite majority in Iraq, represented by the Asura rituals. These issues include: What are the “rituals” we are talking about, their essence and historical origins, and the position of the Shiite religious establishment on them? Who are their most important advocates, in addition to their most prominent opponents among the clergy? What is their relationship to politics in the Iraqi state? Other issues that attempt to provide a more accurate understanding of this issue. Therefore, the paper, with its title and topics, necessitated dividing it into: the problem of ritual practice, defining the most important concepts, rituals according to a sociological perspective, and a historical summary of the practice of Husseini rituals.
