العلاقات السياسية بين الإمارات العربية المتحدة وإيران 1971 – 1981
Abstract
The countries of the Arabian Gulf, particularly those newly established, faced border issues with most neighboring countries, including the United Arab Emirates, which was founded in 1971. It experienced both internal and external problems. What concerns us in this context is its foreign relations. In its early days, the UAE faced border issues with Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman over the Buraimi Oasis and with Iran over the three islands. A country the size of the UAE could not resolve its issues with these major countries except through diplomatic means. Therefore, it pursued two paths: the first was asserting its legitimate right to the three islands through continuous memoranda to the United Nations and the Arab League; and the second was initiating good diplomatic relations with Iran by exchanging ambassadors.
