Abstract

The Sino-soviet schism for the period 1956-1969 produced a major rift in the Communist Bloc, especially in the continent of Asia. Countries with a communist approach had to choose between lining up with the Soviet Union or standing against it and joining China. If they chose the hostile side, they had to bear the consequences of that choice. Outer Mongolia chose to be Moscow's reliable ally, and despite the great political and economic pressure exerted by China on it, it unequivocally sided with Moscow.
