Abstract

After the outbreak of World War I, men volunteered to go to the battlefield and participate in the war, so women saw it as their duty towards the British Empire to volunteer for war as well, and to practice the profession of nursing for the sake of their children, and accordingly the Women’s Elite Organization (Daughters of the Empire) and the New Zealand Nurses Organization were formed and the Nursing Service was formed in the New Zealand army and headed by Hester McClain, and even nurses of Maori origin asked to join.
