Abstract
The institution and religious thought were of great importance in the lives of the inhabitants of Mesopotamia, but rather were among the most important aspects influencing the course of the events of his life and the development of his civilization. Religious thought is considered one of the most important determinants of human behavior, imprinting his customs and traditions in a special way, and he is the one who regulates his customs and controls his behavior with others. This information was known through the various sources that were found in archaeological sites, such as sculptures, finds, buildings, and writings on clay tablets. The ancient Mesopotamian citizen had a feeling that there were powers greater than him that determined the course of his life, which led to the worship of many gods and endowed them with characteristics, including simulation, analogy, continuity, and polytheism. These deities were appeased by the priests, who were men and women, and had multiple tasks within the religious institution, and set days for annual celebrations in which the king personally participated. From the readings that were found, it became clear that the inhabitants of Mesopotamia had a religious and philosophical thought on various topics, including the creation of the universe, the creation of man, death and resurrection. The institution and religious thought were not the subject of disagreements and rivalries with the political institution, but were an element of peace for the inhabitants of Mesopotamia
