Abstract
In this research, the researcher dealt with the reality of water resources in Al-Muthanna Governorate, in terms of wasteful use of water in homes, farms and factories, which led to the depletion of groundwater and a decrease in the discharge rates of the Euphrates River, as the large volume of water loss is due to the old water networks and the presence of fractures In it, the use of fresh water for watering gardens, and for purposes other than drinking, as well as the use of old irrigation methods, in addition to the variation in the amounts of rain from one place to another and from time to time due to the occurrence of the research area in dry and semi-arid areas.All these factors resulted in a water scarcity in the research area, which led to the deterioration of the agricultural economy, in terms of the emergence of many problems and crises resulting from it, including the decrease in the per capita share of water to (less than 50 liters) per capita, the destruction of many orchards, and the shrinking of the agricultural area lands, and because of the scarcity of water, the phenomenon of removing orchards and transforming them into housing units spreads, and industrial and commercial establishments have been established on agricultural lands.
