Abstract
Since traffic awareness is a basic requirement of life at the present time in order to increase the number, diversity and development of cars at the same time, so this research aims to reveal the role of developing traffic awareness in reducing traffic accidents by knowing the numbers, types and reasons And the effects of traffic accidents in the study area and to identify the spatial and temporal variations of traffic accidents, and the extent of traffic awareness of the masses and the means used to spread traffic awareness and for the purpose of achieving the goal of the research, it relied on the qualitative, analytical and quantitative approach, and was divided into two sections: the first focused on the geographical distribution of traffic accidents in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and the second dealt with the role of traffic awareness in reducing the risk of accidents. The research reached a number of results, most notably the discrepancy in the distribution of traffic accidents in the study area and the increase in the number of traffic accidents during the day, reaching (63.9%) of the total traffic accidents in the study area and that human causes have a greater role than the occurrence of traffic accidents, as well as the reduction of traffic accidents will only come by intensifying traffic awareness campaigns. The research suggested the necessity of developing a guide and identifying the places where accidents occur, as well as activating the role of educational, educational, environmental and media institutions.
