Abstract

The collapse of the German, Russian and Austro-Hungarian empires, at the end of World War I, created a political vacuum in Poland that created internal chaos, However, Poland faced an appalling array of political, social and economic problems, Local political forces from various directions rose and began to demand power, despite the existence of the Guardianship Council (established by the Germans) that was considered the legitimate authority in the country.
