Abstract
Climate fluctuation is one of the current and future challenges facing the residents of Al-Muthanna Governorate due to the effects caused by these changes in various aspects of life, including the threat to plant biodiversity. Therefore, this research aims to study the reality of climate fluctuation in Muthanna Governorate and to identify the extent of its impact on plant biodiversity, by conducting an analysis of the most fluctuating climatic elements based on the method of drawing time series at a rate of (5 years) for each of them using the Excel program. , and follow the trend line for each climatic element in terms of rise or fall and compare it with the annual rate of those elements, based on the data of the Samawah Climatic Station, during the study period (1988-2017) and for a period of (30) years, and the analysis of the study period and its division into short periods resulted in that All climatic elements in the study area witnessed clear climatic fluctuations from one period to another from their general annual rates, but the The largest change occurred in the climatic elements through their deviation from their averages in the last years of this period, and this corresponds to the severity of climate change that the world is witnessing at the same time. The study concluded that the climatic fluctuations led to the emergence of new species of exotic and invasive plants that did not exist previously, which numbered about (10) species and a percentage of (19.2%) of the total invasive plants in Iraq amounting to (52) species, while the number of natural plants reached Endangered species are about (14) species, as the rise in temperatures and the accompanying increase in the process of evaporation, low humidity and the spread of desertification threaten the existence of plant biodiversity in the governorate.
