Abstract

The topic of the study deals with the following: The most important difficulties and problems that hinder the activation of the academic counseling process at the Faculty of Education in Al-Mazahmiyyah, which are related to the academic counselor, the counseling relationship between the academic counselor and the student, the study plan, the academic schedule, and the registration procedures. The most prominent difficulties and problems are: poor communication between the counselors and their students, difficulty in communicating, high academic load of academic counselors, lack of real desire among many students and teachers to interact with the process of academic counseling, lack of follow-up the student's cumulative average by the academic counselors, the change in the teacher of the material after the completion of the registration process, the frequent changes and modifications in the study plan, the continuous change in the faculty components, the poor coordination between the different departments at the Faculty in this regard, and the big number of students assigned to the academic advisor. The second topic deals with the following: the leading local and international experiences in the process of academic counseling and guidance, which can be utilized in the Saudi universities. The study concludes with a number of suggestions and recommendations to improve the process of academic counseling and activate them, especially: raise the awareness of counselors and students about the of this activity and their essential role in enhancing and enriching it, appoint an academic counseling officer in each department but with low teaching load, cooperation between the departments of the Faculty in the success of this process, overcoming the problem of communication with students, providing sufficient importance qualified staff for academic counseling, engage outstanding students in academic counseling activities, reviewing local and international experiences in this field, enhance the counseling process with Lectures on the labor market and employment opportunities, and encourage counselors and students to participate in seminars and conferences related to this field.
